Botox
Facial expressions involve repeated movement of the muscles beneath the skin. Over time, lines may become more noticeable when frowning, raising the eyebrows or smiling. Botulinum toxin injections can temporarily soften selected expression lines by reducing activity in the muscles responsible.
Botox is a brand name commonly used to describe this treatment. The specific product and treatment plan should be discussed during consultation.

How Does the Treatment Work?
Botulinum toxin temporarily reduces nerve signals that cause the treated muscles to contract. This can make movement-related wrinkles less prominent.
Common treatment areas include frown lines between the eyebrows, horizontal forehead lines and crow’s feet around the eyes. Suitability depends on facial anatomy, muscle activity and the changes you would like to achieve.
Treatment does not add volume to the face. Lines that remain visible at rest may respond differently from those mainly produced by movement.
An Individual Approach
Assessment considers your facial expressions, existing asymmetry and the position of the eyebrows and eyelids. Discuss how much movement you would like to retain and what degree of change you expect.
The aim is to agree on a suitable plan with realistic expectations. The same injection pattern is not appropriate for every face, and complete removal of every line cannot be guaranteed.
Before Your Appointment
Tell the clinician about your medical conditions, medicines, allergies and previous botulinum toxin treatments, including when and where they were performed.
Mention any history of muscle weakness, swallowing difficulties or reactions to injections. Cosmetic treatment is generally avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Do not stop prescribed medicines, including blood thinners, without advice from the clinician who manages them.
What Happens During Treatment?
Small amounts of the selected product are injected into targeted muscles using a fine needle. The number of injection points depends on the areas being treated.
Brief discomfort and small marks at the injection sites may occur. Most people can return to everyday activities soon afterwards. Follow the clinician’s instructions about touching the treated area, exercise and any other aftercare precautions.
When Will Results Appear?
The effect develops gradually rather than immediately. Many people notice changes within several days, although the response varies.
For facial expression lines, effects commonly last around three to four months. Muscle activity gradually returns as the treatment wears off. Any repeat treatment should follow reassessment and an appropriate interval for the product used.
Possible Side Effects and Risks
Temporary bruising, swelling, tenderness or headache can occur. Less common effects include eyelid or eyebrow drooping, asymmetry and dry or watery eyes.
Rarely, effects may extend beyond the intended muscles. Seek urgent medical help if you develop difficulty breathing, swallowing or speaking, or widespread muscle weakness after treatment.
